Recently, the sixth Express Entry draw of the year was conducted. In this draw, 667 invitations to apply (ITA) were issued to Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 748 in Express Entry draw 242. Since July 2022, there have been four program-specific draws. Until now, draws were generally for all-program, but it has been over a month since the last all-program draw. The third PNP-targeted draw of the year has occurred, indicating that candidates in this draw have already been nominated by their province, except for Quebec and Nunavut. PNPs compatible with Express Entry are available in almost all provinces and territories, and a PNP nomination can increase a candidate's CRS score by 600 points. With a current cut-off score of 748, candidates need to achieve a minimum score of 148 to qualify for a PNP nomination.

Since the passage of Bill C-19 in June, the IRCC has been working on developing draw categories, which would represent a significant change from the current Express Entry draw process. Targeted draws by category would allow the government to better target individuals with in-demand skills and fill specific labor needs. The immigration minister is expected to announce these categories before invites are sent out, but the specifics of the categories and how the draws will be conducted have not been disclosed.

It is likely that the categories will be based on a candidate's qualifications, such as their degree, profession, job history, or language proficiency. This will make it easier for the government to identify candidates with the skills that Canada urgently needs. Therefore, candidates who may not have the highest CRS scores relative to the overall Express Entry pool but possess the necessary attributes for the draws will have a better chance of being selected.

The system manages three key programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). To apply for Express Entry, candidates need to submit their profile along with required documents such as language tests, academic qualifications, and passports or other travel documents. Once invited to apply for permanent residency, candidates can submit their entire application to the IRCC, including identification documents, letters of recommendation, police clearance records, and medical exam results.
