Canada has conducted a new Provincial Nominee Program Express Entry draw, issuing 1,047 Invitations to Apply (ITAs)

The March 2 draw required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 761 points, 51 higher than the previous PNP draw.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is continuing to avoid conducting all-program draws, the last of which took place in December 2020. It says it is focusing on clearing the current significant backlog before it resumes issuing ITAs in larger numbers.

Canada has so far issued 4,627 invitations, all to PNP candidates, in 2022.

IRCC issued a record 114,431 ITAs in 2021, all to Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and PNP candidates. It beat the previous record of 107,350 set in 2020.

During the coronavirus crisis, IRCC has switched to draws for PNP and CEC candidates, to focus on candidates already in Canada on work or study permits.

The latest draw saw the tie-breaking rule implemented on January 5, 2022, at 10.22 am EST. If more than one candidate had the minimum CRS score, only those who submitted their Express Entry profiles before this date and time received invitations.

This was the fifth round of invitations under Express Entry in 2022

Draw Number: 217
Date of Draw: March 2, 2022
Number of Invitations Issued: 1047
Minimum CRS: 761
Program Specified: Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
Tie-breaking rule: January 05, 2022

Canada’s immigration levels plan aims to welcome 431,645 newcomers in 2022. This is an increase of over 20,000 from Canada’s previous record-breaking targets for the year, the highest level ever targeted in Canadian history.

Included in this total, Canada plans to target 241,850 economic newcomers, including:
• 55,900 Federal Skilled Workers, Federal Skilled Trades, and Canadian Experience Class candidates
• 83,500 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates
Each province operates several nominee programs, each with unique eligibility requirements; many require a connection to the province to apply (work experience, a job offer, a family member, or education in the province).

There are also several provincial immigration programs available to overseas workers without any connections to Canada. Certain provincial nominee programs target individuals in the Express Entry pool with in-demand skills or work experience. These requirements usually change from draw to draw in response to labour market needs. For this reason, just by having an active Express Entry profile, there is always a possibility of receiving an invitation to apply for a nomination.
