The first draw of 2023 and the first in about 7 weeks, most likely due to more applications submitted while the draws were put on hold.

The first draw for Canadian Express Entry since November 23rd, 2022, was just held on January 11th, 2023. With a CRS score of 507, Express Entry draw no. 237 welcomed 5,500 applicants who submitted applications.

Express Entry Draw 237
Date of Draw: January 11th, 2023
Number of Invitations Issued: 5,500
Minimum CRS:  507
Program Specified: Non-specified
Tie-breaking rule: December 06, 2022, 11:00:07 UTC

Candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 507 received 5,500 Invitations to Apply (ITA) from Express Entry draw no. 237. Candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program received invites since there was no program indicated for the draw (FSTP).

The draw on January 11th was the first of 2023 and the first in almost 7 weeks. The CRS score had been steadily dropping in previous draws, from 557 to 491 at the end of 2022, but it rose to 507 in the most recent draw. This is probably because more applications have been submitted while the draws have been put on hold.

In addition, 5,500 ITAs were issued in the most recent draw. As draws continue, the number of ITAs has been rising. 750 more ITAs were issued in this draw than in the one held on November 23. Since draws began in July of last year, this is the largest all-program Express Entry draw to date.

Many are turning to immigration as a solution to these acute shortages due to the critical labour market shortages. The 2023–2025 plan supports immigration as a tactic to assist firms in finding employees. Additionally, it aims to attract talent for key fields like technology, manufacturing, health care, and skilled professions. In the decades to come, this will aid in managing Canada's social and economic difficulties.

Canada will welcome more immigrants annually over the following three years. In 2023, Canada anticipates welcoming 465,000 additional immigrants. In 2024, the goal will increase to 485,000 new immigrants. Additionally, it will increase to 500,000 additional immigrants in 2025. Express Entry draws will be essential to achieving these goals and assisting in the welcoming of immigrants across the nation.

The new strategy also seeks to expand regional initiatives like the Provincial Nominee Program, the Atlantic Immigration Program, and the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot to address specific local labour market demands.

Express Entry conducted 23 draws and issued 46,538 ITAs in 2022. This includes the first half of the year when all other program draws were closed and just PNP draws were conducted.
